Children's Chapel

9 a.m. in Saint Francis Chapel (2nd floor, up the stairs from the Welcome Center)

A child-friendly Liturgy of the Word offered during the first part of the 9:00 am service  for children 3 and up.  Children come into the Cathedral in time to join parents for Communion. Parents are welcome to stay or sign in their children.

Godly Play

10:15–11:10 a.m.
In Godly Play, we create a safe and beautiful space to teach children the art of using religious language – parable, sacred story, silence and liturgical action – to help them become more aware of the mystery of God's presence in their lives. Using hands-on  materials and wondering questions, and allowing them to choose from a variety of creative responses, children learn to make the stories their own. Prayers and a feast (snack) round out the session.

Note Preschool and K-1st have switched rooms!
    • 3-4 year olds: Preschool Godly Play, Room 103
    • K-1st Grades: Godly Play Class, Room 101

SOWhAT–Year 2

10:15–11:10 a.m.
Grades 4 and 5, Room 204
How does a particular space help us come close to God? How does our own ‘sacred space’ at Saint John’s help us to become the people God hopes we will be? As we explore some of the Godly Play stories more deeply, children in this class will engage in a variety of activities –group projects, art, serving others - to help them reflect on these important life questions.
